Dabble with Double Edge Razors

Is hair removal a topic to reserve for when we're a little more comfortable with each other? Sorry if this is a little TMI for my ninth blog post ever. It's not exactly first date chit chat material but I think I found something special in the old school art of double edge shaving, and I just had to share it.

Benefits

A close shave | You don't need quatro blades to give you a close shave. Get one really sharp blade and a heavy, durable safety razor and you'll see just how smooth your legs can get.

Less irritation | Say bye to razor bumps and burns forevuuurrr. Most canned shaving creams have extra ingredients and preservatives that strip the skin's natural oils and lead to irritation, while a good shaving soap will cushion the blade and leave you feeling moisturized and lovely. And extra time you take to carefully shave with a safety razor makes it less likely for you to cut yourself.

It's CHEAP! | A set of 8 refill cartridge blades can cost you over $20, or you can get 100 razor blades for $11.95. There will be a higher initial cost when you build your kit (some collectible or vintage safety razors are really expensive), but the money you'll save throughout the year or however long you'll be shaving will drop ten-fold.

Just relax | I'd be the last girl to tell you that I love shaving, but now it's less of a chore and actually kind of pleasant. The act of making a good lather and taking my time to carefully shave has helped me unwind and take a breather.

Sustainable | As an LA native I'm programmed to care about the environment. You can use a metal safety razor for the rest of your life without having to replace it, as opposed to their plastic counter parts that can break or build soap scum within weeks. Razor blades are recyclable, plastic cartridges are not.

I can go on about my new found love of shaving, but I think that's a good run down. Who knew that a vintage technique of shaving can actually work better than the modern way? If you want to learn more about double edge shaving you can visit /r/wicked_edge on reddit, the community is so knowledgable and give great advice. My shaving kit is from Maggard Razors, their an awesome company with a huge selection. Again I'm not affiliated with any links on this post, I just think their great resources! I'd love to know your favorite hair removal technique.

My Skincare Journey Part II: Daily Routine

This is the second installment of my Skincare Journey series where I will cover my daily and weekly skincare routine for my oily, acne prone skin. Check out Part I where I talk about my progress with acne and what you can do to start your own skincare journey.

Morning Routine
My morning routine is pretty simple since I'm usually rushing to get ready for the day. I skip a lot of steps that I feel are vital for my night routine, but in the morning all I want to do is sleep in.

My Skincare Journey Part I

This is a series on my skincare journey. I wanted to start off with an explanation on where I started and highlight some basic tips on what you can do now to begin your journey to beautiful skin. My next post for the series will be a detailed look at my own skincare routine.

For the most part of my life, my skin has been an issue for me, it's always been oily, full of acne, and prone to scarring. I used every acne fighting beauty product out there to try to cure my skin but nothing worked. I took advice from everyone, who suggested high end brands to at-home treatments, and jumped from one skincare routine to the next. ProActive. Baking Soda. Neutrogena. Lemon juice. I had the whole drugstore in my medicine cabinet at one point, and my kitchen was my own chemistry lab. Still nothing worked. I had most of my acne concentrated on my forehead when I was a teenager, but it later became worse on my cheeks and jawline, a sign of hormonal acne. I hoped that it would just go away on its own in my 20s, since I was technically an adult, but it seemed to get worse and I was worried that maybe I just had to deal with acne for the rest of my life.
